Corporation for Public Broadcasting’s (CPB) Station Renewal Project is revitalizing the public radio services of five public radio stations in key radio markets.

As the managing consultant for phase I of the project, PRC assessed the operational and business capacity of ten competitively selected, underperforming stations. Five of these stations were chosen to receive a two year grant from CPB to implement their business plans to improve operations. PRC is currently managing phase II of this project, overseeing the transformational work underway at the following stations:

WUMB, Boston
KRCL, Salt Lake City
KVCR, San Bernardino
WIPR, San Juan
KDHX, St. Louis

The overall goal of the Station Renewal Project is to improve public radio services and grow public radio audiences. With support from CPB and PRC, these five stations have a unique opportunity to refine their radio programming, operational structures, marketing and business development to better serve their communities.

With strong roots in community radio, KDHX has built a loyal audience by broadcasting diverse voices and promoting civic participation. Yet, like some community radio stations, KDHX has struggled to maintain the benchmarks required to continue to receive Corporation for Public Broadcasting funding. As a participant in the Station Renewal Project, KDHX is pursuing opportunities to strengthen its public radio services and reach new audiences in the 2.4 million persons St. Louis radio market. KDHX station manager comments, “We are very excited about KDHX’s growth potential. With PRC’s help coupled with a strong consulting team, we are refining our programming options, better utilizing the skills of our staff and volunteers, and establishing new partnerships within local businesses.”

KDHX 88.1 FM is a non-commercial, listener supported community radio station offering a full spectrum of music along with cultural and public affairs programming. KDHX is a 42,000 watt stereo station broadcasting 24 hours a day, seven days a week, within an 80-mile radius of Saint Louis, Missouri, USA.
